Holy Week is my favorite of the Christian liturgical year.
I love Advent and I love Christmastide, but as the Apostle Paul tells us, without the Resurrection, we have nothing.
The entirety of our faith finds its validity and soundness in Christ’s defeat of satan, sin, and death.
The defeat of the powers proved Christ’s ability to do all that He promises and it authenticated all that He claims to be.
Liturgically, the Christian year takes us from the waiting of Advent to the joy of Christmas and then propels us to the soberness of Lent and the jubilation of Easter… and back again.
This week, as the Church at large relives and remembers Christ’s final week of life, I implore you to intentionally disciple your children as we look to the work of Christ on behalf to satisfy God’s perfect wrath and justify us before Him.
You know if you’ve been here long that I will never exhort you to any specific, arbitrary formula for living out your faith.
But, this week is worth setting aside distractions and carving out time to observe mindfully and intentionally.
We’ve observed Holy Week nightly as a family every year since my children were young, and while it has been far from perfect and idyllic, it has been entirely worth it.
If you need something simple to use this week, I recommend the Holy Week Video Series produced by The Gospel Coalition along with their “Holy Week in Real Time” article.
In addition, you can swipe to find a Scripture and Hymns you can use each night (along with my favorite version of each). (Ask me for a link to a playlist.)
Here’s a theme to reflect on each night:
🌴Palm Sunday:
Christ’s Deity and Purpose
🕍 Disruption Monday:
Christ’s Authority
📜 Entrapment Tuesday:
Christ’s Teaching
🪙 Spy Wednesday:
Christ’s Mercy
🍶 Maundy Thursday:
Christ’s Compassion, Humility, and Condescension
🗻Good Friday:
Christ’s Obedience
🪦 Silent Saturday:
Christ’s Sacrifice
☀️ Resurrection Sunday:
Christ’s Victory and Power
