January was a light reading month for me. I did NOT kickstart the year with a big push for my 350 book goal, but it was good nonetheless.
In January I read 20 books, and not nearly enough nonfiction. I read several graphic novels, and reread my favorite novel in verse of all time.
πThe Books:
π Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny
4⭐️
There’s truly no one like her.
π Generous Justice by Tim Keller
4⭐️
Or him. ♥️
π Demon Slayer Volume 3 by Koyoharu Gotouge
3 ⭐️
Not my favorite in the series; a “building” volume.
π Before We Say Goodbye by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
5 ⭐️
πππ
π Parable of the Sower-Graphic Adaptation by Damian Duffy
3⭐️
Fine. Mid, as my kids would say, π
π Dark Saturday by Nicci French
4⭐️
My first Nicci French, definitely not my last.
π Whole (Poetry) by Aziza Allen
3.5 ⭐️
Not poetically perfect, but touching (and relatable) nonetheless.
π Study for Obedience by Sarah Bernstein
4 ⭐️
A masterclass in enigmatic, yet compelling writing.
π The Handmaid’s Tale: The Graphic Novel by Renee Nault
4.5 ⭐️
Graphic adaptation at its finest.
π The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore
5 ⭐️
Holy moly.
π These Numbered Days by Anna E. Collins
2.5 ⭐️
Character development nowhere to be seen.
π Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds (reread)
5 ⭐️
Perfection.
π The Curated Closet by Anuschka Rees
3 ⭐️
Fine, and forgettable.
π The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters
3 ⭐️
Predictable, yet still compelling.
π Garvey in the Dark by Nikki Grimes
4 ⭐️
Middle Grade is not a placeholder genre. ♥️
π Garvey’s Choice: The Graphic Novel by Nikki Grimes
4 ⭐️
Love the original, love this graphic version too.
π Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Payson Prentiss
1 ⭐️
I want to punch this book every time I think about it.
π The Many Lives of Mama Love by Lara Love Hardin
3 ⭐️
Interesting story, writing lacks depth.
π Coraline: The Graphic Adaptation by P. Craig Russell
3 ⭐️
Graphic adaptation at its okay-est.
π Parent’s Quick Start Guide to Dyslexia by James W. Forgan
2 ⭐️
One dimensional.
